Quick Look: Teela Taqueria

Teela Taqueria in Sandy Springs is fast becoming the new favorite spot of not only people who live and work in the area, but also for a crowd is who are willing to make the drive to the newly opened taqueria. Tucked in the old Grape space in Citywalk and surrounded by cute boutiques and shops and a Kroger, Teela is making a name for itself through its simple and straightforward menu, its laidback and casual atmosphere and excellent service.

With everything fresh and made from scratch, the eatery features 12 taco choices, all of which are appealing. But the shredded beef brisket taco, the Big Bang shrimp taco and the Southern BLT made with crispy fried bacon and friend green tomatoes really hit the spot. Enchiladas, quesadillas, nachos, soups and salads are also on the menu.

The small list of specialty adult beverages is outstanding. Teela offers 11 wine selections (six red, five white), six margarita flavors and 16 beers (four on draft, 12 bottled). Rest assured that they have a fully stocked bar as well. We suggest trying the pomegranate margarita and the prickly pear margarita. And make sure to choose a spot on the spacious patio to enjoy one of the said cocktails.

But you'll  want to stay in the main dining room to take in the fantastically authentic decor while chowing down on what might be the best guacamole and salsa around. In the main area, the red walls painted with images of floppy sombreros and margarita glasses offset the smaller dining room with bright and cheerful green walls. Still, most of the action is really at the bar, where restaurant patrons make new friends with other guests as well as meet up with their own groups. Also owners Nik and Arte Panagopoulos are always right there socializing with their customers. The entire scene is as convivial as it is gets. If you stop by often enough, everyone will know your name—and your usual order, too.
