For the past few weeks, you've noticed that people across the city have been lighting up their grills. While pretty much anything you put on those grills is quite enjoyable, perhaps you're looking for some inspiration beyond the usual hamburgers and hot dogs. If that's the case, then mark your calendar for the Barbecue Sip, Savor and Stroll on June 16 at Alon's in Dunwoody. The event takes place from 6 to 8 p.m.
The tasting will spotlight grilled meats, as well as salads and sides. You'll get to try items like the fingerling potato salad and roasted summer vegetables. Dips and homemade bread will also be on the menu, as well summer desserts ranging from chocolate-covered fruit to cookies.
Tickets to the event are $10. While you're there, try three wines for $5 or six varieties for $10. If you'd prefer to have beer, it will be available for $2.50. Tickets will be available in advance from www.alons.com and at the door on the day of the event. Alon's is located at 4505 Ashford Dunwoody Road in Atlanta in the Park Place shopping center across from Perimeter Mall. Call 678-397-1781.
A new fast-food joint: If you've been looking for a different kind of fast food, then you'll want to try Evos, which opened this week at The Prado on Roswell Road. The fast food restaurant offers burgers, wraps and salads that are lower in fat than the majority of the menu items at similar eateries. Don't believe their claims? Check out the nutritional information brochure available at the restaurant, which includes a chart comparing their burgers, chicken strips, fries and shakes to those served at well-known chains.
The menu also include vegetarian options, like the veggie burger, the soy corn dog and the veggie chili. In addition to offering items like organic milkshakes, the restaurant uses naturally raised beef, organic greens and hormone-free chicken. The company also focuses on environmentally aware practices, like using sustainable and energy-efficient building materials. Their printed materials use soy-based inks, instead of petroleum-based ones, while their plastic bags are biodegradable.
The chain was founded in 1994 and the Roswell Road eatery is the company's first location in Georgia. Evos is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Sunday. The restaurant is located at 5590 Roswell Road, Suite 140, in Sandy Springs. Call 404-252-4022 or visit www.evos.com.
