Atlanta restaurant news # 4

Holiday cheer with pizza and beer: During the holiday season, it’s nice to find a bargain when you can. No matter what you’re celebrating, pizza and beer are always appropriate. Enzo’s Pizza in Tucker is offering a two-for-one special on all Sicilian slices and pies, so you can easily treat your friends to a evening out. Call 770-938-3696 or visit www.enzospizzatlanta.com. If you’d rather buy a few rounds, head over to Jocks and Jills at the Galleria on Cobb Parkway. Through the end of the month, the sports grill is serving $1 drafts of Miller Lite and Icehouse. Just be sure to bring a designated driver or arrive in a cab, because at this price, you’ll want to have more than one. Call 770-952-8401 or visit www.jocksandjills.com.

A visit from Santa?: We all know that cookies alone can’t get Santa through the big night of traveling the world and delivering toys to all the good girls and boys (and a few deserving adults). So, it’s entirely possible that St. Nick could drop by Spoon Thai Restaurant and Lounge for a dish of pad Thai or chicken curry on Dec. 24. Even if he’s not there, you can be, because the eatery will be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Dec. 24 and Dec. 25. Better yet, Spoon will take 20 percent off your check on both days. Keep in mind that drinks aren’t included in the special. So, if you’re just not that into Christmas, you can break your annual tradition of eggrolls or a trip to Waffle House. If you play your cards right, you might be able to have all three. We’re thinking breakfast at Waffle House, lunch at your favorite Chinese restaurant and dinner at Spoon. You can thank us later. Call Spoon at 404-522-5655 or visit www.spoonatlanta.com.

The X-mas after party: Make plans now to head out of the house and away from the family, if necessary, on Dec. 26. You might want to go straight to Milk & Honey in West Midtown. The restaurant offers $3 mixed drinks with rum or vodka on Fridays. The menu features tapas plates, which can be ordered individually or three for $15. Items include crab cakes, steak bites, mussels, spring rolls, calamari, fish tacos, quesadillas, grilled shrimp and fried green tomatoes. The special sides include sauteed spinach, fried plantains, Asian potato salad and steamed jasmine rice for $3 or three for $8. The restaurant is closed on Dec. 24-25, but will reopen at 6 p.m. on Dec. 26. Call 404-352-3053 or visit www.milkandhoneyatl.com.

An afternoon in the garden: After Christmas, there’s always the question of “what now?” This year, invite your friends or family to tea at the Atlanta Botanical Garden. (Yes, we know about the terrible accident, it will be open this week) The menu features scones, tea sandwiches and pastries, along with a selection of oolong teas. The Holiday High Tea will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 26, 27 and 28. Admission is $22, plus the entrance fee to the garden, which is $12 for adults and $9 for ages 3-17 and those 65 and over. Reservations are recommended for the tea. Call Sun in My Belly at 404-370-0856 to secure a spot. For more about the garden, call 404-876-5859 or visit www.atlantabotanicalgarden.org.

Keep the bubbly flowing: We know you’re already anticipating that champagne toast on New Year’s Eve, but there’s no reason to limit your enjoyment of the bubbly to one night a year. So, for 2009, make a resolution that will be easy to keep—enjoy more champagne. If champagne is among your favorite things. Be sure to attend the third annual Tour de Champagne on Feb. 28 at 103 West in Buckhead. The evening features champagne tastings, as well as food from Atlanta restaurants and entertainment. A silent auction, with proceeds benefiting the Epilepsy Foundation of Georgia, will be held during the event. An after-party that includes a dessert buffet and cognac is open to those with VIP tickets. General admission tickets purchased before Dec. 31 are $95, while VIP tickets are $135. After Dec. 31, ticket prices are $110 and $150. Visit www.tourdechampagne.com. Got a tip about food-related events, restaurant news or special dishes and drinks?
