Turf War plays Criminal Records
In 2011, Record Store Day was celebrated on April 16. Now in its fourth year, Record Store Day has grown from an event promoted by a handful of local independent retailers to a holiday celebrated by music fans and professionals worldwide.
While Atlanta's Criminal Records was one of the first stores to take part in Record Store Day, now, almost every other Atlanta record store also does something special for it.
In 2011, Metromix spent the first part of the day visiting DBS Sounds I in Riverdale and DBS Sounds II and Forest Park. DBS Sounds I, which has been around for more than 17 years, featured hip-hop and R&B acts including Bliss, Untitled and the Gemini Twins. At DBS Sounds II, customers and supporters were treated to several contemporary gospel acts such as Vandarray and Gail Holmes.
Later in the afternoon, Metromix stopped by Wax N Facts in Little Five Points before heading over Criminal Records. The Little Five Points store featured an impressive Record Store Day lineup with performances from British Sea Power, The dB's—who were playing together for the first time since 1982—Oryx and Crake, Turf War and others.—Max Blau, Special to Metromix
