For the past two weeks, I’ve been chronicling the must see national and local shows of the week. However there are so many fantastic weekly local musical events that as an Atlanta citizen you should not miss. Most of these themed shows take place at 10 High in Virginia Highlands, the smoky underground music haven of Darkhorse. Each week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays they transform the space and transport the audiences from the hard rock stadium shows of the late '70s, to a funktastic Soul Train dance party, and the smooth sailing waves of a Yacht Rock. Also this week treat yourself to two unique performances at local punk palace Drunken Unicorn and Star Bar. So get out and support the locals!

Metalsome Monday

10 High hosts karaoke like none other in Atlanta! At the wildly popular Metalsome Monday, folks get on the mic to live out their dream of being a rock star-- and it's pretty darn close to the real thing. They're backed by an actual live band consisting of some of Atlanta's top musicians, all on a huge stage with stage lights and a great sound system. The extensive song list is mainly focused on '70s-'90s rock songs, and the audience is usually packed in expectation of a rockin' show. DJ English Nick from radio station Rock 100.5 as well as Vern (our most colorful Atlanta rock star) hosts the popular night, which is so well-known that local and national musicians from REM, Motley Crue, Collective Soul, Butch Walker and many others have come by and performed. Take a sick day on Tuesday and get your inner rock star there on Monday nights!

Don’t throw away your platforms so fast. Grab them and your friends and jump on The Love Train. Performing old skool, R&B, and funk hits every Wednesday at 10 High, you’ll not want to miss this ride.
Yacht Rock Revue

Thursdays : 10 p.m.
Get ready to set sail and enjoy the smoothest sounds of the Yacht Rock Revue. Playing all the un-abrasive soft hits of the '70s and '80s. Y.O.U. fronts this ultra-hip retro band of characters. So push up the sleeves of your blazer, grab your highball class and don't forget to groom your mustache before you hit the high seas of smooth at 10 High every Thursday.
