Atlantis opening night party
Last night the tenth annual Atlantis Music Festival and Conference kicked off with an opening night party at Opera. Limos lined Crescent Avenue as mostly rock and urban artists disembarked to strut their stuff on the red carpet. MTV2 and VH1 were also covering the arrivals adding some exciting national attention to a uniquely Atlanta event.
Anchor and MTV VJ Krishnar caused a little bit of a red carpet traffic jam as he chatted with various television reporters, while photographers continued to swarm around arriving artists on the miniature red carpet. Ying Yang Twins’ D-Roc walked down the red carpet without his famous other half and his fans clamored for the Atlanta natives' support of his hometown. The Ying Yang Twins will be at Center Stage on September 20 for the Ultimate Urban Showcase.
Inside Opera, industry leaders, VIPs, media, and musicians mingled throughout the crowded indoor and outdoor event spaces. Opera provided a great opportunity to network and learn more about Atlanta’s Grammy Chapter but perhaps the best display of Atlantis’ spirit and purpose was on full display just two blocks away.
Ponderosa headlined an after party at Artistry, where many Atlanta rockers including Rick Brantley and Aslyn were in attendance. Not only did the Southern rock group showcase their signature sound but they shared the stage with several other local performers including Brantley and the Let’s-Go-Out-Tonites’ Darren Dodd. Ponderosa’s engaging and energetic performance perfectly illustrated Atlantis’ mission: to become the greatest platform for the discovery of new talent, which was evident by the diverse dancing crowd cheering for a band many had not heard of before the night.
Tonight will be the first full night of artist showcases, including Rick Brantley at Vinyl and Ponderosa at Smith’s Olde Bar.
