The Bitteroots will play the Metromix Soundcheck on 11Alive Morning News on Oct. 14. Before their performance, the Decatur band took the time to answer some of our questions.
Who are the band members and what instruments do they play? Laura Dees (vocals), Michael Koetter (guitars), Stephen Roberts (drums/vocals), Dan Shockley (lead guitar), Bill Taylor (bass/vocals)
When did you start playing together? March, 2008
Where are you from originally? All over, but we are now based in Decatur (Oakhurst)
Which metro Atlanta city do you live in now? Decatur
What are you working on now? Promoting our debut album "French Fries." We will be recording album number two in January.
For those not familiar with your band, how would you describe your sound? We have a heavy pop rock sound that calls on blues and roots influences, but still manages to break new ground with fun, hook laden grooves, while just killing it with over the top, driving vocal melodies.
If you could tour with any band current or in the past, what band would it be? Each of us would have something completely different here, but a current band we really like and would love to play with would be The Tedeschi Trucks Band.
Where is your favorite place to watch a show in Atlanta? Smith's Olde Bar, The Five Spot, Eddie's Attic
Where are you most likely to be spotted hanging out in Atlanta? Smith's Olde Bar
Where will the band be performing soon? On Oct. 15 at the Five Spot, on Nov. 12 at Vinyl at Center Stage and on Dec. 6 at Eddie's Attic.
