Silver Scream Spook Show cast local extras in Rob Zombie film
Though it’s set in the fictional town of Haddonfield, Ill. during Halloween, Rob Zombie’s “Halloween II” was filmed in the Atlanta area earlier this year. With help from the folks behind the Plaza Theatre’s Silver Scream Spook Show and Splatter Cinema, Zombie and his crew created the ultimate Halloween party with the Phantom Jam, a pivotal scene that takes place in a surreal club featuring topless dancers, an obnoxious horror show host named Uncle Seymour Coffins and a rockabilly band called Captain Clegg and the Night Creatures.
For this scene, the Spook Show cast a couple hundred local actors, artists, musicians, rollergirls and other creatively costumed horror fiends, then turned them into some of the most extreme Halloween partygoers ever seen on film with makeup, costumes, props and prosthetics. To celebrate their horrific handiwork, the Spook Show hosts a midnight premiere of “Halloween II” at the Plaza on Thursday, Aug. 27. Zombie gave many of the film’s props to the Spook Show, some of which are now being used as part of its stage set, and others that will be on display at the event.—Jonathan Williams, Special to Metromix
