•Tuesday, the men sang. Tonight, it's the women on American Idol (Fox, 8 ET/PT).

•Here's something you don't see every week: two great sitcoms, on the same night and network, sharing the same plot, as The Middle (ABC, 8 ET/PT) and Modern Family (ABC, 9 ET/PT) mark tonight's leap-year calendar occasion with a "leap day" birthday.

On The Middle, it's Sue who's celebrating a Feb. 29 birth; on Modern, it's Cam (Eric Stonestreet).

As you'd expect, considering the characters, the difference is likely to be in the approach: Where the ever-hopeful Sue waits for her often-forgetful family to make an appropriately big fuss, the more demanding Cam has Mitchell worried that no fuss would be big enough.

•Andre Braugher guests as attorney Bayard Ellis on the winter finale of NBC's Law & Order: SVU (10 ET/PT).

He comes to Benson's aid when her half-brother (Michael Weston) needs a lawyer to fight a child custody battle.

•If you started the night watching the preliminary rounds of Idol, you might want to end it watching the finale of Top Chef (Bravo, 10 ET/PT).

Idol may be more popular, but Chef's the one with the Emmy.
