The Whistle Post Tavern is a great place to go for a good time in Conyers. The people and staff are friendly.

Depending on when you're there the food has the potential to be excellent. I personally prefer their Sunday brunch menu, the choices are insanely fattening and delicious. The menu also boasts several healthy choices as well. I am a self-professed 'Foody' and I know I'm fairly picky about service and cleanliness, sometimes over food, but this place is average-to above average in most categories. Basically, it may not jump out in your mind as a fave place to go, but it certainly wouldn't be a place you dislike. Again, I recommend Sunday early morning to afteroon, the brunch menu and the bottomless mimosa is a great treat as well.

I have to say these pictures could not have come from this restaurant. The food was cold and had nothing appealing about it. The Ambiance.Service.Value...... NOT GOOD AT ALL! It was the worst restaurant I and my date have VERY BEEN TO! In closing is restaurant's needs a major overhaul or just to be close down...... For Good!

BitOKass wrote about Borage Grill

I am not easily impressed but I am a fan of the Borage Grill. Sometimes, even if the food isn't the greatest at a place, wonderful service can dull a bad taste. Well, this restaurant certainly doesn't have to worry about that. The food and customer service is pleasingly pleasant. I actually had only dined Mediterranean style a few times prior to eating here and I can now name many of the Medit. foods I prefer because I have been back so many times. The Borage Grill Sunday Buffet is the absolute best bang for your buck in Conyers for fine eating / non-chain eateries. I tend to avoid buffets at all costs but this one trumps the usual image of a buffet, its certainly not what you'd expect. Each time I am there the wait stuff is helpful friendly and on hand. The owner comes to each table to ask how the customers are enjoying their visit and their meals. A plus is the outdoor, sidewalk tables in the middle of Olde Town Conyers. I am a definite stickler for good service and cleanliness and this place not only has both but does it with class, smiles and absolutely delicious foods.

BitOKass wrote about Seven Gables Restaurant & Bar

Should I start with the cold food, the children working in the kitchen, or the two little dogs running through the dining area? The dining area that on a Saturday night had only two guests: my date and myself. Anyone that gave this restaurant a five star rating must have never actually been to this establishment or must be an owner or member of the staff (of children) because that could not be further from the truth, no exaggeration necessary here. This place earned the proud honor and distinction of being the absolute worst place I've ever had the misfortune to 'eat' in. Since that 'dinner', I always look at this place on the occasion that I drive past it... I now realize that I have never actually seen a car in the parking lot that does not belong to staff/owners. Ambiance - It was raining the night I went so maybe that would account for the dank, moldy wood and moth ball smell. It was overpowering. Add to that, the decor was clearly from some time in the mid to late 80's and it clearly smelled like it, lots of pink, puffy curtains and floral print. It was like walking into old cellar. It was very dark, I could barely see what I was eating and the dinner rolls that were brought out were stale, hard and lukewarm, basically inedible. Add to that I kept hearing childrens' voices and dog yelps coming from unlit areas of the restaurant. I lost my appetite long before the entrees were brought out. Food - The entrees were just as bad as the dinner rolls. I had fish and it tasted as if it had been frozen and thawed out past the expiration date. It was clearly very old and very disgusting. I had all of three bites and returned the entree to the cook - who was watching us eat the entire time, very odd. Service - The service was fine if you account for the fact that the greeter/waiter/chef had his eyes on us the entire time, from the counter, the kitchen, over the serving area. In fairness, there was no one else there. Did I mention it was 8pm on a Saturday night? A typical restaurant is usually very much crowded at this point. Value - If you've read to this point then you know that my description for 'Value' is going to be "NONE". In closing, as my boyfriend and I left the restaurant we saw several children sitting on the counters in the actual kitchen, moving dishes around, playing with them, etc. Also my question concerning the random dog yelps was answered when two little dogs ran past, THROUGH THE MAIN DINING AREA (children closely behind) and into two double french doors that were quickly closed behind them. So unless you'd like to be featured on an upcoming episode of Gordon Ramsey's 'Kitchen Nightmares', I strongly suggest that you avoid this restaurant and (as much as I hate to say this) go to a nearby chain restaraunt if you don't have a knowledge of the area and the handful of other great, local eateries. I don't expect much from Conyers, but this was beyond the pale of unacceptable.

BitOKass wrote about Whistle Post Tavern

I am in-towner, through and through. I rarely travel outside the perimeter and when I do, Conyers would certainly be last on the list of places to head. BUT - This place is wonderful and usually quite packed and local people have described it to me as "the only place to drink in Conyers". I've only been there at night but the staff is extremely friendly. Its a family run business and they don't tolerate any crap. The review I read below stating that kids were "running everywhere" and "fights broke out"... I have to say that has never been my experience there and I have been there easily two dozen times at this point. Its a great place for ADULTS, live entertainment, dancing, talking and my big plus is that it is a non-smoking establishment. There is a very nice patio of off the main area with benches, tables and umbrellas for individuals that wish to smoke. The owner, Chris, is always there, always looking out for his staff, customers and entertainment. I have never seen him let anyone go home drunk, even if he's got to pay for the cab himself. Apparently this bar & grill has been apart of the town for a very long time and I can see why; besides the good staff and environment, its always clean. So take it from a hard to please in-towner; if you've got to head to Conyers - I would certainly recommend stopping by the Whistlepost Tavern. They have definitely turned me into a repeat customer and a believer that there are decent eats and treats east of the city!

BitOKass wrote about All Fired Up

This is a review of the Emory Village Location only. Upon calling to investigate just what is included in the overpriced party package, the phone was answered by a completely distracted and totally uninterested female. I asked what is included in the $16 per child party package (that's the cheapest one - there are three packages ranging from $16-25 per child) and stated that I was interested in throwing a party for a group of 16-20 five and six year olds. She provided very little information, cut me off mid-question and spoke to a friend that came in the store (actually she didn't cut me off, she just started speaking right over me to her pal), asked me to repeat most of my questions several times and basically told me that they would provide a tiny piece of pottery for each child and paint. There would be NO employees on hand to help distribute the pieces or paint and work with the children nor would there be any assistance unless I left the children in the room alone to find someone myself. So that's no party favors, my cake must be small and "not too messy" and no one on hand to explain to the children what their activities would be or provide any assistance during the party, which is a 90 minute block. For close to $300, not only is that not much at all, its verging on complete rip-off. Although cost is not a major factor, I do require some semblance of professionalism for that price. After having walked in twice prior to this phone call, and going several minutes without actually seeing anyone in the store or being acknowledged and then making this phone call, I am convinced that I dodged a HUGE bullet by taking my business and money elsewhere.

A much nicer and upscale building, almost too nice if you were use to the 'old' Oyster King. Prices are a bit high, but then I usually eat there for lunch and have a sandwich and fries. I am not big on fish but they have burgers also you just have to look for it on the menu. It is close to where I live so I'm in there twice a week. I did notice they have a new blog site: oystercafe at blogspot dot com

Myself and my girlfriend were in Atlanta for a Drama related convention and our first impression of the retaurant is that they did not want us there because they appeared closed 3 of the four days we were there. When we did finally get in for a Saturday lunch we were treated to an excellent view and wonderful menu selections, being in the mid-west I rarely get to experience good diverse seafood. We eat had a seafood themed sandwich, myself with lobster and my date with a slider trio. The food was phenominal except for the sweet potatoe fries which were cold. The thing that struck me was the fact that we were approached by two different servers neither one sure if we were their table or not. Neither server was very engaging and both were quite cold an business like, this may have been due to poor english skills but I don't think that was the case. I cannot say that they were unattentive but they really were more order takers than servers. The other thing that grated on my nerves a bit was the fact that they shut the buffett lights off in the middle of our meal, not very welcoming. In short I loved the food and atmosphere and would gladly come back when a gaming convention isn't in town to see if their attitude changed to something more inviting. I know gamers have an unfounded reputation of being cheap but when Gencon comes in Indy rolls out the red carpet, others could learn from their example.

MilitarySlim wrote about The Corner Tavern

I have gone here a few times and the environment is not “my cup of tea”. Not the high end sort of crowd. I was here on the 5th and last time on 11/02/09 when the security person got chewed out for breaking up a fight. He was outweighed by more than 50 pounds by both people, yet, he jumped right in and split the fight up. One of the best examples of professionalism I have seen from club security/bouncers. Once he told the guys to leave he was verbally assaulted by a bartender and the owner over a tab. There is more importance put on a tab than on the safety and well being of the customer. If you are looking to have a good, uneventful, time, Corner Tavern is not the place for you. Security gets in trouble for being security. If you are looking for prostitution, drugs, and bloody fights then check them out. Atleast Baja’s is big enough that the chance of seeing a fight is slim but the chance of being in a fight is next to non-existant. There are no places in Newnan that are half way decent but Scott (I think that was his name) was attempting to clean this one up until he got his butt crawled for doing his job. I will never go back to The Tavern….but Hey, thumbs up to Shane (DJ Cancerous). He is awesome on the mike.

Megan_St_James wrote about Haven Restaurant

Just outside the hubbub of Buckhead in the Brookhaven neighborhood resides HAVEN. Here owner, Michel Arnette and chef Stephen Herman use seasonal and local ingredients to bring flavors to life in this cozy neighborhood eatery. One notices immediately at this classy urban restaurant is the courtyard-style garden patio. Living in Atlanta, patio dining should be a requirement. Chef Stephen has put together a menu that showcases his talents. The delicate mellow tasting flash fried crispy gulf oysters from Apalachicola Bay really come to life with the fried cornichons- such diverse yet complimenting flavors. From Maine’s ultra-rich eco-system come the plump, sweet tasting Blue Hill Bay mussels that are bathing in a smoked chipotle sauce that is worthy of asking for additional grilled sourdough bread. These dazzling small plates matched perfectly with the robust, tropical, floral tasting Conundrum, which is a unique blend of five white grape varietals. Try the amazing Truffled Potato Hay; the finely shaved richly flavored potato strings make for great table munchies. For meat lovers, the Duck Leg Confit from Jurgielewicz Farms with its thick sorghum-sherry sauce is rich and juicy and is complimented with pickled Japanese Hakurei turnip, a nice touch of sweetness to the meat. To not forget the vegetarian, the seasonal yellow Heritage tomato gazpacho, which is marinated overnight in white balsamic, is simply divine; the touch of basil oil adds elegance to this soup. Also, the delightful Dillwood Farm squash blossoms stuffed with ricotta cheese and eggplant is an explosion of heavenly tastes. Gordon, our server, recommended the Steele Pinot Noir from Santa Barbara with its rich complex flavors of earthy dried cherries to make these dish flavors scream- he was right on! To change gears ever so slightly, the Moore Farms butter lettuce with a delicate citrus Saba vinaigrette (made from freshly squeezed grape juice), local brown turkey figs and the creamy yet tangy Flat Creek Lodge Blue cheese is a perfect blend of distinctive fresh flavors- a simple yet imaginative salad. The versatile Newton Claret with its blueberry and white pepper spice finish went well with the tender Ashley Farm Chicken n’ Dumplings whose juices enhance the herb dumplings, no one makes it like this, sorry Mom. The other white meat “is to die for”, the perfectly grilled, melt in your mouth Heritage Berkshire Pork Rib Chop with a smoky sweet corn and pork belly hash, its simply unbelievable. A great meal should feel like you’re body is getting a treat. So to really treat it, the old fashion banana pudding with vanilla wafers is a great way to do it. The Mer Soleil Late Harvest Viognier takes this dessert to the edge, to heaven. To help celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Bloody Mary, HAVEN serves an unbelievable Sunday Brunch and their Bloody Mary I think is one of the best in the city, it seems to have a splash of magic in it.

I'm from san francisco where japanese food is abundant but even compared to the west i have to say sushi huku was my BEST japanese food experience. the fish is so fresh and the uni just melts in your mouth. i was visiting atlanta and read reviews for this place. i was NOT disappointed. i walked in and asked the chef what he recommended and he carefully and very thoughtfully explained what was fresh and prepared it for me. it was such an intimate experience... i felt THIS is how japanese is supposed to be. waitresses in kimonos served and the place was packed. a lot of greetings in japanese and i tried their udon and tempura because i was super hungry and they were amazing! the broth was very authentic and not the powdery kind. oh and the best thing is, their fresh wasabi! almost all japanese places use powder cheap form but you can tell how much sushi huku values quality by giving even fresh wasabi. i thoroughly enjoyed the meal, the service, and the chef's sharing. i will make sure sushi huku is a "must go" each time i'm in georgia., it was definitely, undoubtedly the best. arigato

This afternoon my husband and I decided to try Season Tickets in Fayetteville. It is his birthday and we were going to meet our sons and some friends there to eat and watch the Tech game. We called the restaurant to make sure that there was no smoking and that they were going to have the Tech game on. When we got there at 7:20 the boy at the door said, I just wanted to let you know that we're closing in 30 minutes and that we only have fried food. We said, but we called and no one mentioned this to us. He said, "you must have called this morning". No, we called around 3:30 pm. Their hours are clearly posted as until very late on Sat. night. Guess 8:00 pm is very late to them. Someone could have told us on the phone!! We will not be going back! Hope that your Season Ticket is cancelled!

shbinga wrote about Psycho13 Haunted Factory

I'm shaking my head over the guy who thinks this is a "tourist trap." Right up front, I'm an actor at Psycho13. I was recruited by the owners because they enjoyed my performance in stage show - not exactly how "tourist traps" are run. BTW, that's my only connection, I'm not a longtime friend and this certainly isn't how I make a living. It's just fun, for me and everyone else at the house. The owners put a huge amount of work into this place, from designing and building the sets and effects to coming up with storylines that go through the house - there is more to Psycho13 than some guys in black jumping out and yelling "BOO.". They take a lot of pride in it, are constantly tweaking it to make it better, and are never happier than when visitors leave screaming and laughing. The actors spend time between guests bragging to each other over who scared the last ones most, and congratulating each other when we really get one good. Not that you care how WE feel, but the fact that we WANT to be doing this and take it seriously makes it a far better house. Not at all the way "tourist traps" are run. The important thing is how our guests feel, and most of them I've observed have been spooked, scared, creeped out, and in fact totally loved it. I've literally heard guests - talking to each other, not to one of us prodding them - say things like "why did we wait so long at NetherWorld, this was way better" and "that was better than Universal, and half the price!" Oh, and "that was the best haunted house I've ever been in." Which just makes us turn it up even more. Not the way they do things in "tourist traps." At my post, I get to see and interact with every single person that comes through the houses. Some are so scared they cover their heads and barely look up. Some are in on the joke and laugh just a little too loud (which always makes me go after them.) Some act tough and brave but you can feel them shiver just under the surface - I asked one young man - a foot taller than me and a good 100lbs heavier - "not scared, are you?" "I'm trying not to be" was his shakey answer. And some, of course, just rush through, missing the "scares" and the story and looking for minor flaws ("hey! that statue is styrofoam!! there's a vampire's water bottle!") because they'd rather tear a place down than take the chance of being part of the show and letting themselves feel that icey hand on their heart for a few moments. I feel bad for those people, they lost a chance and wasted their money. OK, so I work at Psycho13. But I don't get anything extra by getting a bigger crowd, and we'll be so busy the next two days in any case that the reviews here don't make much difference to business. But I couldn't let the "tourist trap" remark stand - we take this fun seriously, and the result is outstanding.
