Design website co-founder Maxwell Gillingham-Ryan talks about "Apartment Therapy's Big Book of Small, Cool Spaces" at SwitchModern
Maxwell Gillingham-Ryan, the co-founder of the Apartment Therapy website, visited Atlanta for the first time to talk about his work in interior design and his new book. "Apartment Therapy's Big Book of Small, Cool Spaces" (Clarkson Potter, $30) features 30 small homes and is packed with photos and ideas. Like the Apartment Therapy website, the book focuses on interior design for small residential spaces.
In Atlanta, Gillingham-Ryan spoke to fans and signed copies of the book at SwitchModern on the Westside. He talked about his childhood memories of the warmth of a neighbor's kitchen—all the kids wanted to hang out there in part because of the cookie jar that was always filled with treats. Gillingham-Ryan's background includes studying crafts at college in England and seven years teaching elementary school.
Though he loved teaching, he founded his own interior design service, Apartment Therapy, in 2001. In 2004, Gillingham-Ryan began blogging, with help from his brother Oliver Ryan, and his primary focus gradually shifted to the blog. Today, Apartment Therapy is one of the country's most successful design blogs, with more than 3 million unique visitors each month.—Rachael Mason, Metromix
