Oh what a night!
By now we’re so accustomed to our fair city playing host to some of hip-hop’s biggest stars that Monday night was not really that different. While you’ve probably never heard of The Dirty Awards, Rick Ross, Trina, our own scorching songwriter/artist Keri Hilson, Luda, Bow Wow and T.I. have. Powered by HOT 107.9, the festivities, now in their fourth year, were held at the Georgia International Congress Center, right next to the airport. Things, as you know, got a little out of hand but that didn’t stop the ATL party.
From there, it was off to The Loft at Center Stage to catch Q-Tip with The Cool Kids and another Atlanta rising star, Janelle Monae. Backstage was cool in vibe but hot in temperature as hip-hop pioneers Doug E. Fresh, Pos from De La Soul and producer Diamond D chilled with DJ Drama, DJ Don Cannon, Akon’s newest artist Tami Chynn from Jamaica, Common and even Serena Williams, as they all stopped by to support Q-Tip.
At Luckie Lounge, Remy Martin hosted Ludacris’s album release party. Downstairs, Missy Elliott was very low key, as was the Diamond Princess Trina. Upstairs was a different story. Atlanta’s very own two-time Olympic gold medal-winning track star Angelo Taylor, former Danity Kane member D.Woods, as well as Luda’s Disturbing Tha Peace crew, including their female rapstress Shawnna, were all on hand to celebrate Theater of the Mind, Luda’s latest, with Remy in their cups.
Not everyone posed for pictures, but it was still filled with memories.
