Why is the ATL so cool? Mondo Homo Festival

To be honest, I did not even know the Mondo Homo Festival was going on during Memorial Day weekend or that it even existed.  I was driving back from another venue and saw a ton of cars pulling into Lenny's.   So, I stopped to see what was going on.  I'm so glad I did.  It was a blast!  It was fairly obvious when I walked in that it was an event geared towards the gay community, primarily lesbians.  However, what makes Atlanta so special is how our large gay community and the straight community interact without sexuality ever being an issue.  As it should be.

That said, I met a ton of super friendly people and learned what "The Mondo Homo Festival" was all about.  There were events and parties the entire weekend, at different locations. The event on Saturday afternoon was in the parking lot and inside Lenny's bar on Decatur street.  They had a live band outside with several vendor booths selling clothes, jewelery and other items made by local artists.  They even had an inflatable "moon bounce" and cotton candy machine.  Very cool.  Inside of Lenny's had a great vibe.  A large crowd of people just having cocktails and mingling like they were all one big group of best friends.  Sounds so simple, but it was perfect.  Makes you think why it is not like this at all the places you go.

Bottom line: Try something different and experience the diversity Atlanta has to offer.  You may just realize it is a lot of fun to go outside of your comfort zone sometimes.
