If you like football, why are you sitting at home on your couch? On September 27 it’s going down at the Georgia Dome. The Bank of America Atlanta Football Classic is back and celebrating its 20th anniversary. Come check out this historic rivalry between Florida A&M University and Tennessee State University as they once again bring that heat to the ATL going head to head on the football field. Of course, for all my bandheads out there, the FAMU “Marching 100” and the TSU “Aristocrat of Bands” will also be in full effect beastin’ on each other from across the field. So go ahead and break out those green and orange J’s you’ve been saving, the blue stilettos with the matching purse, your new ‘nalia you bought at the Burning Sands in The Mall at West End and get down to the Atlanta Football Classic with the quickness. It will be an event you won’t soon forget and here are ten reasons why:
1. Come stunt on ‘em. It’s the Atlanta Football Classic. You know you have to come fresh to def. So if you feel you have the look, style and swag to match, come show off what you got. Hey, you never know whose eye you could catch.
2. Get to point at the guys riding in the box Chevys and Impalas outside the stadium sitting on 132 inch rims wondering why they aren’t deaf yet as they bump their 20,000 watt speakers.
3. If you’re dating someone, the AFC is a lot more creative than your average dinner and a movie. Have fun and get some brownie points.
4. The game is not expensive so you can have a good time and save some gas money. You might be up in the nosebleeds for $10 but you still will have fun and you can see the marching band formations better than the people in the $40 seats.
5. For all my Greeks, come rep your organization. Reunite with old bruhs and sorors, meet and quiz up new neophytes, show off your line jackets and see who has the livest new strolls. Special shouts out to my frat, Kappa Kappa Psi.
6. Before kickoff, go chill at the pre-game tailgate party. You can check out different exhibits, games and entertainment and you might even catch a glimpse of some celebs. Last year, there were performances by Yung Joc, Soulja Boy and a cooking demonstration by Chef G. Garvin. You never know who will show up this year.
7. For those that have been to the classic before, you already know what it is when the marching bands step in the building. There will be numerous face-offs throughout the game that’ll have your head nodding and jaw dropping, non-stop.
8. If you’re in the mood for some stepping, you can check out the Allstate HBCU Step Showdown the night before the game at the Atlanta Civic Center. Come see some of the best “Divine 9” step teams from around the country, battle it out right here in the A.
9. Watch some good ol’ fashioned, hard-hitting, gut-busting football between two legendary universities on the gridiron right here in the Georgia Dome or you can just sit at home and play Madden.
10. All I have to say is one word. Halftime! The highlight of the game for many. You do not want to miss this epic battle between the FAMU “Marching 100” and the TSU “Aristocrat of Bands.” Watch as they high-step down the field and make sick formations, pop 90s so high their knees hit their chests and crank up dance moves that are sure to have you on your feet.
