Atlanta's best cougar bars

Me-ow, it’s the year of the cougar. Well maybe not, but let’s just say we’ve been seeing quite a few of them around town lately (not to mention on TV). You know who we’re talking about—the hot, older woman prowling the bar clutching her glass of wine, with a cigarette between her lips, and wearing a low-cut top. As they prowl, they’re digging their claws into men (or boys) who are roughly 10 to 12 years or more their junior.

Remember Stifler’s mom in "American Pie?" She’s a prime example, baby. This growing breed of leading ladies is on the rise as of late and is seemingly unstoppable. How do we know? Well MMX did a little cougar hunting of our own and found some of the places where they prey. Here's the list:

Beluga Martini Bar

Beluga Martini Bar

3115 Piedmont Rd - Atlanta
404-869-1090

Cougars normally like their martinis straight up or dirty. While the occasional cougar will sip on a cosmo or an appletini, most go right in for the kill, so to speak. And Beluga Martini Bar in Buckhead is a fantastic place to get a dirty martini and a sultry cougar looking to pounce. This spot has been around for a hot minute and anyone who is anyone on the social scene is usually there.

The Capital Grille

The Capital Grille

255 E. Paces Ferry Road - Atlanta
404-262-1162

Power lunches and powerful men, this steakhouse gem is only on the list as an honorable mention. Why? Well, because we normally only see preying males here. We'll just call them sugar daddys. The cougs here are fewer and farther between because this is where the big boys break bread and do business deals. You may spot a couple cougars every now and then, but we suggest you go to Capital Grille for the food and then hit up one of the other spots on this list.

Chops Lobster Bar

Chops Lobster Bar

70 West Paces Ferry Road - Atlanta

Think Edie on Desperate Housewives. You know, an incredibly in-shape, bleached blonde, who is tall, sassy and really likes being told she is all of the above. Well, meeting an Edie can happen at Chops Lobster Bar. This Botoxed Buckhead beauty will sashay in and all male eyes, young and old, lock on her. And she knows it. But that's part of the fun of cougar watching (or hunting, as the case may be).

Hal's

pick Hal's

30 Old Ivy Road - Atlanta
404-261-0025

A prime locale for dirty old men and Buckhead cougars, Hal’s on Old Ivy serves up primo steaks and super strong cocktails. And yes, there are a lot of cougar bars in Buckhead, but Hal’s really is a legend. The silver foxes (older cougars with no shame) will hit on you, and hit on you hard. The cougars and old men are all over the place, so tread lightly; one may try to steal a dance from you by the piano or just hit on you at the bathroom. But it’s a jungle in the bar area, so hurry to a table in the dining room to eat one of the best meals ever. Seriously.

Johnny's Hideaway

pick Johnny's Hideaway

3771 Roswell Rd NE - Atlanta
404-233-8026

Probably the most cougarific bar in town, Johnnny’s Hideaway is where it’s at. Known for its rockin’ dance floor and exceptional selection of cougars over 40, this place is the stuff legends are made of. On a random Tuesday night, for example, you might see a cougar dancing up a storm with a 26-year-old guy in a plaid shirt. Where else do you see that? Only at Johnny’s, only at Johnny’s, my friend.

New York Prime in Monarch Tower

New York Prime in Monarch Tower

3424 Peachtree Rd. NE - Atlanta
404-846-0644

If you want a tasty steak, head to Bone’s, but if you want a tasty steak with a side of cougar, then head to New York Prime. The lavish bar, complete with its country-club-dining-room feel is home to after-work cougartastic happy hours where cigars are smoked by businessmen and drinks are thrown back by all. Once you get there, enjoy a New York strip that will melt in your mouth and put your cougar-spotting glasses to work.

Old Vinings Inn

Old Vinings Inn

3011 Paces Mill Rd. SE - Atlanta
770-438-2282

Cougars! Jaguars! Hyenas! Silver foxes! Basically, at the Old Vinings Inn, you’ll see every type of cougar in every age bracket. Throngs of these women show up to this quaint restaurant and bar on the weekends to dance to the live music. While they do let loose, they don’t go too buck wild. With the bar upstairs and the restaurant down, we think the Old Vinings Inn is a great spot for the area's finest cougars. You’ll likely be pleasantly surprised about who you might meet.
