Atlanta date night: Dark spots

If you've heard of "Dating in the Dark," you probably know what goes on during it. Just in case you need a refresher, it goes like this: a group of single men and women get to know each other without being able to see a thing at the "Dialog in the Dark" exhibit at Atlantic Station. The event takes blind dating to an extreme before the singles meet up afterward.

While you probably don't want to avoid a clear view of your date every time you go out, keeping things in the shadows can sometimes be fun—especially this month, as Halloween gets closer and closer. Here are five dark places that you might want to try on date night.

Fadó Irish Pub & Restaurant

273 Buckhead Avenue - Atlanta
404-841-0066

While this Irish pub can get pretty loud, it can also be quite cozy—especially if you find the right spot. You'll want to find your way to the rooftop patio, which has shadows of all the right kinds and, if you're lucky, a secluded place to sit.

Netherworld Haunted House

6624 Dawson Blvd - Norcross
404-608-2484

If you're looking for some of the darkest rooms in metro Atlanta, you'll find them here. Yes, it's scary, but fear can be quite invigorating. And having a cute date clutch your arm and stand as close to you as possible is well worth facing the horrors of the night, right? The haunted house stays open through Nov. 13 this year.

Star Community Bar

437 Moreland Ave NE - Atlanta
404-681-9018

By definition, almost all bars embrace the dark side, but not all of them have photo booths that allow you to document your evening. When you and your date step inside the photo booth at the Star Bar, you'll find that you have eyes only for each other.

Starlight Six Drive-In

Starlight Six Drive-In

2000 Moreland Ave. SE - Atlanta
404-627-5786

It's not pitch black at this drive-in theater, but the movies don't start until the sun has completely left the sky. And seeing the movie from your car adds a dimension of privacy that you're just not going to get at the local multiplex.

Ten Pin Alley

Ten Pin Alley

261 19th St. - Atlanta
404-872-3364

Sure, all bowling alleys dim the lights for cosmic bowling, but this Atlantic Station spot keeps the lights at a pleasingly low level throughout the evening. Plus, the food and drinks here definitely beat the offerings you'll find at the snack bar of a typical bowling alley.
