Schneider's and distributor B. United were on hand to answer questions
May 26, 2009
While the dinner featured Bell's beers. There was also an optional Schnieder and cheese pairing for an additional $15. They included Canya de Ovegu with Hopenweisse, Sweet Grass Dairy Chevre with Edelweisse, and Cross Roads Blue with Adventinus.
Besides great enjoying their great beer we also learned a few facts including: Schneider's Wiesen Edel-Weisse was traditionally brewed for the Octoberfest in Munich. The term 'Wiesen' in Germany means meadow and is a slang term for Octoberfest.
According to German law, brewers must have their main production facility in Munich in order to participate in the Octoberfest. So after their brewery was destroyed during the war, Schneider had to leave the Octoberfest in 1942. So while you can't get it at Octoberfest, fortunately Schneider has re-created the style for the American market so we can get it closer to home.
